ALL geared up to spend the next three months in London, Rihanna was looking forward to a Great British summer.
With two major UK festival performances planned and a TV series to film, the singer was expected yesterday to be settling into her luxury rented home in the capital.
Instead, she was holed up 5,000 miles away in Los Angeles after cancelling at the last minute.
And it seems â" just like the weather over here â" the star is all washed out.
Her management has blamed âsicknessâ, causing the 24-year-old to shelve her immediate plans â" including an appearance on next weekâs Graham Norton show.
Publicly, her TV bosses and tour promoters insist her summer plans are unaffected, and Rihanna will jet in as soon as sheâs better.
Rihanna herself has mysteriously dismissed claims she is ill but behind the scenes there is concern the starâs non-stop party lifestyle seems to be taking its toll.
The Barbados-born singer â" who was spotted out in LA as recently as Monday night â" has been photographed on 61 nights out since January.
Most of those nights have also seen her post photos of herself on the internet.
One source said: âShe always seems to be out partying â" and loves posting photographs of her nights out on Twitter.
âSheâs been ill a lot lately as well â" and takes photos to prove it. Some people are beginning to get a bit worried.â
Twice this year, most recently last month, the singer has been admitted to hospital â" and both times posted photos on Twitter of her arm hooked up to an intravenous drip.
She also missed a key dress rehearsal for an appearance on the prestigious US TV show Saturday Night Live last month, which infuriated producers.
The guilt-ridden singer â" who had posted late-night photos of herself throwing money at dancers â" tweeted that she had early rehearsals for the show and added: âWoke up repenting!! Feelin like a sinner.â
Her representative said at the time: âShe was sick and needed to save her voice for the live show.â
Unfazed, she was again taken to hospital days later following a heavy night at the Met Gala in New York.
Apparently suffering from âexhaustion and dehydrationâ, she was hooked up to another drip, and once again posted a photograph on Twitter.
As soon as she was discharged, she jumped straight on a plane and was soon back on the red carpet in LA promoting her acting role in Battleship.
At the time she said her illness was âfluâ, brought on by her âexhausting scheduleâ.
Rihanna told reporters: âI donât drink a lot of water. I keep working every time I get sick. Sometimes you just need some rest.â
She admitted that she had to stop everything for a few days and âget some fluidsâ.
Reports claimed she could have been on a £225-per-session âparty girlâ drip, which contains a cocktail of vitamins and nutrients to help combat a hangover.
Whatever treatment she sought, it didnât stop her pals and family from worrying about her.
Her mother Monica Braithwaite decided to accompany her daughter â" real name Robyn Fenty â" to New York.
But just two nights later Rihanna jetted back to LA and headed straight out on the town again with friends.
Her partying is by no means confined to the States â" for Rihanna has become a seasoned round-the-world boozer.
Her dedication even saw her pull an all-ni ghter for her 24th birthday ahead of her performance at the Brit Awards in February.
She turned up to rehearsals having had no sleep after hanging out with Kate Moss and Stella McCartney.
Last September, she had another all-nighter at a party in Rio de Janeiro with her pal Katy Perry â" with the pair drinking and dancing until 10am.
Rihanna has written a song called Cheers (Drink To That) which she dedicates at her gigs to âall the semi-alcoholicsâ.
But it isnât just alcohol she appears to enjoy. She was pictured smoking what is thought to have been a high-grade strain of marijuana â" âkushâ â" in Barbados this year.
She posted on Twitter: âGot my kush rolled and glass full!â
In June 2010, she was allegedly banned from a hotel in Barbados after she was caught smoking pot in her room. And she was photographed dragging on another suspicious-looking cigarette at the Coachella festival in California in April.
However, she hit out at reports that she had been taking cocaine.
Rihanna has always been adam ant she would never use hard drugs after witnessing her father Ronald Fentyâs addiction to crack cocaine.
She said: âMy dad was part of that 60s generation who took drugs as a matter of course. A real party dude. But his partying got way out of hand, spiralled out of control.
âI caught him a few times and I didnât even know it was crack.â
Her video for her No 1 single We Found Love depicted heavy drug use, but she vows she will never follow the tragic path of doomed star Amy Winehouse. Instead she says she leans on her best friend Melissa Forde for support when she needs it.
âThat will never happen to me,â she said. âI refuse to crack under pressure. When I see people turning to drugs and alcohol, I call Melissa. She helps me get through things.â
Rihanna has had a lot to overcome. In 2009 boyfriend Chris Brown punched, kicked and bit her in a fight the night before the Grammy Awards.
However, the singer has since forgiven her ex and they even recorded a song together this year.
She came in for much criticism for the collaboration but said: âThe bottom line is that everyone thinks differently. Itâs very hard for me to accept, but I get it.
"People end up wasting their time on the blogs or whatever, ranting away, and thatâs all right.
"Because tomorrow Iâm s till going to be the same person. Iâm still going to do what I want to do.â
She has since dated baseball player Matt Kemp and has been linked to a string of men including actor Ashton Kutcher, rapper Drake and East London boxer Dudley OâShaughnessy â" her video co-star on We Found Love.
She now says she is âsingle and happyâ.
The star last visited the UK last month, when she partied with Kanye West and her mentor Jay Z following their live show in London. Rihanna woke up at 9am, claiming on Twitter she was still drunk.
The same day, she missed her flight and went to see their show again.
She then headed to a party at Londonâs Boujis with Didier Drogba and other members of Chelseaâs ecstatic Champions League-winning squad.
However, she did not seem to enjoy herself that night â" claiming she was âsober, tired and boredâ.
There was confusion last night when Rihanna insisted she will fly to Britain after spending time with her family.
She tweeted: âIâm not sick! I pushed my trip to London back to go spend time with my family! Sorry kiddos.â
A spokesperson for Rihanna last night refused to comment on the cancellation of her London trip.
The star is still scheduled to be taking part in her untitled reality fashion show for Sky Living, on which she is also executive producer.

A spokeswoman for the show insisted yesterday she is â100% committedâ to the series.
She has reportedly already filmed scenes for the first episode.
The winner of the show will design Rihannaâs outfit for the Wireless festival â" which she is still confirmed to be headlining in just four weeksâ time.
She is also still scheduled for BBC Radio 1âs Hackney Weekend in a fortnight.
Organisers will have their fingers tightly crossed that their star turn eventually makes it onto that plane.
