Haunted by Harry: Husband couldn't bear to see One Direction singer's face after DJ wife's affair

No matter where Oliver Pope turned, the same young face appeared, as if taunting him.

Turn on the TV, open a magazine or newspaper, look up at a billboard, and One Direction heart-throb Harry Styles was staring back at him.

And each time he caught sight of the teenager’s cute urchin-like face and trademark mop of hair, the pain of betrayal and humiliation welled up all over again.

While Harry’s adoring global army of fans can only dream of getting their hands on the former X Factor star, Oliver’s 32-year-old wife Lucy Horobin did just that, and much more â€" despite being 14 years older than Harry.

The glamorous radio DJ confessed to Oliver that during a rocky patch in their relationship she slept with Harry, then 17, almost leaving their marriage in ruins.

And, as we can exclusively reveal, she was forced to tell him that this was not just a one-night stand â€" the age-gap c ouple slept together TWICE.

A friend told the Mirror: “When Oliver first found out about the fling he couldn’t bear to watch TV in case Harry was on it.

“He couldn’t bring himself to listen to the radio in case he could hear Harry’s voice.

"And he certainly didn’t want to open a newspaper in case he saw Harry’s face.

“At the time it was very difficult. One Direction were everywhere.”

New direction: The couple have worked through their problems

Our sister paper, the Sunday Mirror, told how cheeky chappy Harry wooed Lucy after first meeting her at her Manchester radio station Key 103 in August.

Now we can reveal Lucy actually confessed to Oliver about her fling with Harry in November, shortly after the romance had fizzled out.

By then TV presenter Caroline Flack, also 32, was dating the youngster and Lucy thought it was best to own up to get their marriage back on track.

But Oliver was devastated.

A friend told us: “Oliver remembers clear as day the moment Lucy sat him down and told him what had happened.

“They were at home in Manchester but were practically living separate lives.

"They’d hit a stumbling block in their marriage and that’s why Lucy succumbed to the charms of Harry.

"When she realised what she really wanted, she told Oliver what had happened.

“She didn’t go into every cough and spit of the relationship but pretty much told him everything he needed to know. It was heartbreaking.”

Lucy, who now co-presents the breakfast show on Heart South Coast, told friends Oliver, 31, was initially inconsolable after hearing the truth about her and Harry.

But bravely he decided to deal with his heartache in silence, trying to keep his wife’s affair a secret from friends and family.

As our pictures of the couple out on Saturday during a romantic getaway to Brighton illustrate, they decided to make a go of their one-year marriage and Oliver now claims they have actually grown stronger.

A friend said: “Slowly but surely he saw light at the end of the tunnel.

“Lucy got a new job and it seemed like a fresh start.

“They never thought to tell family about Lucy’s blip with Harry because they never had any intention of the story getting out.

“Now they realise that was a silly mistake. Too many people were aware of what went on.”

Oliver had to deal with a second blow when the relationship became public, admitting to pals: “I felt humiliated. I felt a fool.

"I felt like the whole world knew what had happened. It could easily have ruined our marriage for a second time, but we’ve fought hard to save it.”

Today however, the Daily Mirror can reveal the full extent of the emotional turmoil Lucy and Oliver h ave been through since she first told him she bedded Harry â€" and since news of the secret fling broke.

A friend said: “It’s fair to say the last eight days have been tough on both Lucy and Oliver.

“This was something they had dealt with many months ago themselves and never imagined it would come to light.

“In fact, not even their families knew about Harry Styles until the story emerged last week.

“It was a nightmare, to say the least.”

While Oliver and Lucy have more than reconciled their differences, he has nothing but scorn for his young love rival Harry Styles.

The pal told us: “Oliver is a very forgiving guy but he said to me, ‘Why should I feel anything but hatred for this little scumbag?’

"And in my opinion, he’s right. He acts like a spoilt little rich kid â€" and as though butter wouldn’t melt in him mouth.”

Harry, on the other hand, has made no contact with Lucy since their relationship became public.

The One Direction star wooed the pretty radio host live on air during her Key 103 show.

Listeners heard him tell her: “You look lovely today”, to which she replied, “Thanks Harry, so do you.”

Soon afterwards they spent the night together at a nearby Manchester hotel.

The pair had first met at a previous interview and exchanged messages on Facebook before meeting again.

With Lucy’s marriage going through a rough patch, she was charmed by the attentions of the handsome teenager and quickly fell for him.

But according to a source at the time, she was left “confused” about her feelings for her husband, adding: “When things fizzled out she realised she had made a stupid mistake.

“She wanted to make a real go of her marriage and decided the only way to do that was to confess about Harry.

“She was terrified about admitting what she had done.”

Harry’s relationship with older woman No2, Xtra Factor host Caroline Flack, ended earlier this year after widespread criticism from fans that she was “way too old”.

A close friend of Harry insisted this weekend: “To him it was clear Lucy had separated from her husband.

“He had no idea she was still married.”
