Eric Clapton has had a stunning £3million special edition sports car made for him by Ferrari.
The SP12 EC is described by the carmaker as being âcreated as homage to Claptonâs career and his long lasting experience as a Ferrari ownerâ.
SP stands for special project and EC stands for Eric Clapton.
He paid $4.7million (£3million) for the one-off model which took two years to make, US reports said.
In an interview with Ferrari Magazine, Clapton, 67, admitted the start of the project was like âbeing in front of a gigantic blank canvas that had to be painted onâ.
He added that overseeing the manufacture of the car was âone of the most satisfying things Iâve ever doneâ.
It is based on the 458 Italia model but features styling from the rock legendâs favourite Ferrari model 512 BB.
He has previously owned three of these.
The SP12 ECâs hand-built body include a larger air intake at the front of the car, grey slats on the front boot lid and a two-tone red and black paint scheme.
The car is part of Ferrariâs One-Off Programme, which was set up in 2007 to create unique models following demand from super-rich customers.
Cars built by the One-Off Programme must be based on an existing Ferrari platform.
The Tears in Heaven singer will also get the tools used to make the car which ensures it remains unique.
A Ferrari spokesman said: âJust like music is created, applying the right notes in the right places to build a musical score, so was the creative process behind the SP12 EC.â
