American lasses LOVE the One Direction boys. That is a fact. But it’s possible they may love them a little too much. Before any of their, er keenest fans send us angry emails, Tweets or just general vibes, let us explain.

So, the boys are over in America, AGAIN, because it’s all going just slightly well for them over there and it seems they decided they wanted to have a little wander around New York on their day off.

Nothing wrong with that is there? Er, yeah actually there is â€" because it created scenes of complete flippin’ mayhem.

Presumably because the US 1D fans are constantly camped outside their hotel day and night, they’re pretty up on the boys’ movements.

So when they tried to go out, it all went a bit… riotous.

There’s a blurry video of the scenes below, but Niall Horan also Tweeted just after the incident, which saw them give up the idea of a stroll around New York, in favour of the safety of their rooms.

“This is a complete joke / Ridic / Day off, wana chill,” he posted in short, very uncharacteristic bursts.

Liam Payne also Tweeted: “That wasn’t even funny.”

The boys were OK though and were bundled into their car by security before being whisked back to the hotel where Niall later posted: “Just chillin here with @JoshDevineDrums and @zaynmalik jammin on the guitar / love all you mofo's..can hear u singing outside the hotel.”

What big hearted boys they are (after they were gently reminded the baying mob below would pay for their mortgages for the rest of their lives).
