Can you hear that? That cacophony of excitable squealing and wailing?

Yep. That’ll be thousands of One Direction fans beating a path to Harry Styles ’ door after Louis Tomlinson let slip he is back on the singles’ market.

The One Direction star’s brief fling with The Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack , 22, is over.

Asked who pulled most frequently on the lads’ recent tour of America and Australasia, Harry’s 20-year-old bandmate Louis replied: “Do I even need to say who?

"I think it would be completely and utterly unfair to single out girls in that way, or put it like that.

“But... if you were to put it like that, I think it would â€" possibly â€" be... Harry. Do we keep a tally? No, we do not! That’s hideous.”

And asked if Harry was still going out with Emily, he responded: “No, no...”.

Elsewhere, the battle of the boybands is firmly back on.

One Direction have raised the bar and blasted The Wanted, branding them worthy of nothing more than a “support slot” on the mighty 1D’s tour.

In the (baby) blue corner, Louis has reignited the fiery feud between the two groups, jibing at their “rude” and crude language.

With his tongue firmly pressed against his cheek, the star hit out at the lads, telling me: “I think it is always blown up out of proportion, the way that just because we’re two boybands there’s massive rivalry.

“But we are hoping that they’ll still get on with us. Because, you know, there is potentially a spot on our arena tour for them to support us.” Cue cackling laughter.

“I was going to say something rude, then,” he quipped.

“Or something sexual. But that’s something The Wanted would say.”  It is indeed.

The Wanted first sparked the feud with the boys when they branded their music “for children”, and said their main aim was to “sell posters”.

Since then, One Direction’s debut single What Makes You Beautiful has sold a massive two million copies in America.

The Wanted grovelled in apology saying there was no beef between the bands, and even said they could see a collaboration on the cards.

Somehow, I don’t think that will be happening any time soon.

Meanwhile, One Direction, who have a live DVD, Up All Night, chronicling their tour coming out on Monday, have just spent a week recording new material in Sweden and are due to jet off to the States this week.
