“He started throwing me around the room": Ronan Keating says fan who accosted him was 'just a bit drunk and silly'

Ronan Keating spoke about the drunken fan who roughed him up at the Isle of Wight Festival yesterday and said: “I didn’t touch him â€" I probably should have.”

The Boyzone star, 35, was backstage on Sunday when the man tried to lift him up and poked fun at his height before security rescued the 5ft 8in singer.

Ronan, there to see Bruce Springsteen’s set, had been drinking backstage with Stereophonics star Kelly Jones and Paolo Nutini.

He admitted on Irish radio station 98FM he didn’t know the mystery attacker.

He said: “This guy had a few too many drinks and he just got a bit silly.

“He started throwing me around the room. He was a nobody, bless him.

"Well, he thinks he’s a somebody today, God love him.”

Unhurt Ronan was back at work yesterday finishing tracks on his new album Fires.

He said: “It’s g reat just to be back and doing it.”
