James Bond star Daniel Craig will open the Games ceremony in true 007 style... with a daredevil leap into the Olympic Stadium from a helicopter.
Three choppers will swoop down the Thames and under London Bridge before heading to the Olympic Park in East London.
To the strains of the James Bond theme, Craig will drop into the stadium on a rope ladder as a billion people watch on worldwide.
The nail-biting action will follow a short film by Trainspotting film-maker Danny Boyle, the artistic director of the July 27 opening Âceremony.
In the movie, called The Arrival, Bond visits ÂBuckingham Palace by Royal Appointment to be told his latest Âmission is to launch the Games.
The Queen Âpersonally invited Craig, 44, to take part and is Ârumoured to make a cameo appearance.
Boyle was given unprecedented access to the Queenâs private rooms to make the film backin March. But the Palace has kept details under tight wraps.
A source said: âDaniel Craig is determined to open the ceremony with a bang and he and the BBC producers have pulled out all the stops.
âThe world will be watching and they are happy to go to any length to make sure the stunts are as thrilling as possible.
âNot only are they giving us Bond, Britainâsmost iconic character, but theyâre giving ussuspense and drama with the helicopters and the Bond theme tune.
âIt will be unmissable.â
